Joseph P. Nano
Joseph P. Nano is an aspiring surgeon-scientist (MD-PhD), author, and researcher. A Syrian-American who immigrated to the United States with his family in 2012, his journey of assimilating into the community and learning English at Falmouth High School in Maine was the subject of an award-winning short documentary titled Barriers.
He is primarily recognized for his academic achievements and cross-disciplinary work in science and public health:
Academic Milestones: He became the first student at Boston College to graduate with a double Bachelor of Science degree in both Biology and Neuroscience in 2020. He later earned a Master of Public Health (MPH) and a Master of Science (MS) from Dartmouth College’s Geisel School of Medicine, where he has pursued doctoral studies (PhD) at The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice. Published Author: During his undergraduate career, he authored the book Controversies in Biology and neuroscience (2021), which compiles his advanced research coursework alongside professor-reviewed experiments. He has also written poetry and short fiction, sharing over 100 pieces to his credit.
Research & Public Health: Driven by the COVID-19 pandemic, his public health work focuses on medical education, Telehealth, surgical care, health communication, shared decision making, healthcare equity in rural areas, and pandemic prevention.
